MASPALOMAS INTERNATIONAL TRUMPET FESTIVAL
INTERNATIONAL TRUMPET COMPETITION
(Junior and Master category)
(15th – 16th JULY / 2018)
RULES AND REGULATIONS
Article 1
- The first edition of the “Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival” Trumpet Competition will take place in Maspalomas (Gran Canaria, Canary Island – Spain).
- The Expomeloneras Conference Palace will host the competition from July 15-16, 2018.
- This competition is a production of the Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival and the Rotary Club Maspalomas.
- All of the procedures related to the “Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival” Trumpet Competition will be conducted exclusively via the official site www.maspalomastrumpetfest.com.
- The Jury, will be composed of international personalities in the trumpet world.
Article 2
- This Competition is open to trumpet players of all nationalities.
- MASTER Category: Candidates age must not exceed 35 years by the 1st of January of the competition year (2018).
- JUNIOR Category: Candidates must be under 20 years by the 1st of January of the competition year (2018).
Article 3
- The contestants will perform in a set order determined by a random drawing.
- The drawing will take place Sunday, July 15th, 2018 at 12:00h at the opening ceremonies, in the presence of the jury members and the secretary contest of the Competition.
- The candidates are required without exception to be personally present at this occasion and must bring their originals Idintefication Cards.
Article 4: Program
- The program will be available for viewing on the official Website www.maspalomastrumpetfest.com.
- For the Elimination Rounds, the jury reserves the right to request that the contestant play all or part of the requested program.
- For legal reasons contestants are not allowed to use photocopied or scanned music in performance unless the composition in question is commercially unavailable at the time of the competition.
MASTER CATEGORY
Elimination / Round 1
- A. Mandatory (to be played on Bb trumpet):
- Joseph Haydn – Trumpet Concerto in E Flat Major – Movement I (without cadenza). Any edition.
- B. Performance of one work chosen among the following:
- Georges Enesco: Légende (International Music Company or Enoch & Cie editions).
- Arthur Honneger: Intrada (Salabert editions).
Final Round
- A. With piccolo trumpet, performance of one work chosen among the following:
- Georg Philipp Telemann: Concerto in D-Major (1st mov.) (Sikorski editions)
- Johann Friedrich Fasch: Concerto in D-Major (1st mov.) (Sikorski editions)
- B. Performance of one work chosen among the following:
- André Jolivet, Concertino (Durand Editions)
- Henri Tomasi, Concerto (Alphonse Leduc Editions)
JUNIOR CATEGORY
Elimination / Round 1
- A. Mandatory (to be played on Bb trumpet):
- Johann Baptist Georg Neruda, Trumpet Concerto in E Flat Major: Movement I. Any edition.
Final Round
- A. Mandatory (to be played on Bb trumpet):
- Jean Hubeau, Sonate. (Durand Editions).
Article 5: Rehearsals
JUNIOR AND MASTER CATEGORIES:
- For the rounds requiring piano accompaniment, the organization will make a pianist available to the candidates.
- For each round requiring accompaniment one rehearsal session will be arranged by the organization.
- Candidates can play with the piano accompanists of their choice, but at their own expense and in specifying in the aplication.
- The specific times of these rehearsals will be given via e-mail, following the validation of registration.
Article 6: Prizes
PRIZES MASTER CATEGORY
1st Prize
- 2000€ .
- Professional Trumpet.
- Paid concert during the 2019 Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival.
- Scholarship in 2018 Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival.
2nd Prize
- 1000€.
- Professional Trumpet.
PRIZES JUNIOR CATEGORY
1st Prize
- 500€. (Fundación La Caja de Canarias Prize)
- Trumpet.
PRIZE Fundación MAPFRE Guanarteme (best canarian interpreter of both categories):
- Valued at 1200€ , donated by the MAPFRE Guanarteme Foundation, and a concert at its institutional headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (c / Juan de Quesada, nº10).
Article 7: Jury
- The members of the jury will will be composed by renowned international trumpet players.
- The list of members will be available for consultation on the official Competition website www.maspalomastrumpetfest.com
- The deliberations will be done at the end of each round.
- The jury reserves the right to not award all prizes.
- The jury remains sovereign.
- Jury decisions are non-appealable.
Article 8 : Applications
- In order to be admitted to the competition, the application should be completed before June 1th, 2018.
- The application process (required documents, payment of registration fees) will be made in full solely via the official competition Web site.
Article 9: Required documents
- Completed application on the website: www.maspalomastrumpetfest.com.
- Scanned image of a recent photograph.
- Short curriculum.
Article 10: Registration Fees
- Applicants enrolled in the Festival: Free.
- Applicants not registered at the Festival: 50€
Article 11: Stay in Maspalomas
- In order to orient the contestants, the organizations proposes on its official Web sites several establishments selected for their proximity to the competition facilities (hotels, restaurants, tourism).
- Lodging and trip expenses are entirely the responsibility of the candidates.
Article 12: Broadcasting
- All of the competitions are public.
- The different competitions can be recorded, broadcast over the radio and/or televised without these retransmissions implying any financial remuneration whatsoever.
Article 13: Acceptance
- The organization is uniquely empowered to decide upon candidate admission, after having examined the application portfolios.
- The list of accepted candidates will be published on the official competition Website on June 1th, 2018. Those selected may receive confirmation of their participation in the contest before this date. Upon admission to the competition, the candidate will receive the necessary information by mail. By their participation, the candidates imply their complete acceptance of the rules and regulations of the competition.
