Gabriel Cassone

Gabriele Cassone graduated in trumpet with Maestro Mario Catena and in composition with Maestro Luciano Chailly. A world-renowned concert artist, he is appreciated both for his interpretation of music on historical instruments (natural Baroque trumpet, keyed classical trumpet, romantic valve trumpet, and cornet à pistons) and for his performance of contemporary repertoire. Luciano Berio chose him to perform his works with solo trumpet: Sequenza X for solo trumpet and, in its world premiere, Kol-Od, under the direction of Pierre Boulez with the Ensemble Intercontemporain. Later, he performed on stage with trombonist C. Lindberg in Berio's opera Cronaca del Luogo, commissioned by the Salzburg Festival. Famous conductors have called on him to perform the most virtuosic pieces in the solo repertoire: Sir John Eliot Gardiner appointed him principal trumpet of the English Baroque Soloists for the complete performance of J.S. Bach's Cantatas and for the Second Brandenburg Concerto. Ton Koopman, director of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, wanted him to record J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 51. In the field of Baroque music, he founded, together with Antonio Frigé (with whom he also performs in a duo), the Ensemble Pian & Forte. He has performed as a soloist in the world's major theaters: Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Cité de la Musique in Paris, La Scala in Milan, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Carnegie Hall in New York, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and Wiener Konzerthaus. He has released over 20 CDs featuring works ranging from Baroque to contemporary repertoire. Gabriele Cassone is a professor at the Novara Conservatory and teaches annual specialization courses at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, as well as seminars in the United States and across Europe. He is frequently appointed as a jury member in the most prestigious international competitions. He is the author of the book "LA TROMBA", published by Zecchini. Gabriele Cassone plays Courtois trumpets.
