Juan Antonio Martínez is currently principal trumpet of the Spanish National Orchestra (Orquesta Nacional de España).
Before winning his position in the ONE, Juan served as principal trumpet of the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège (Belgium). He has also collaborated with leading ensembles such as the Brussels Philharmonic, Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, BBC Symphony Orchestra in London, and Orchestre National de France, among many others.
Born in La Roda (Albacete, Spain), he began his musical training with Tomás Cortijo. He studied at the Professional Conservatory “Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco” in Albacete with Professor Luis Sánchez, and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Trumpet Performance under Professor Jesús Rodríguez at the “Rafael Orozco” Superior Conservatory of Music in Córdoba.
He refined his musical training with trumpet players and pedagogues such as Arturo García and Luis González, and he was also a student at the Orchestral Studies Academy of the Barenboim-Said Foundation.
Juan Antonio has won the First Prize by unanimous decision at the 2nd National Trumpet Performance Competition “Alnafir” and the Second Prize at the 2nd “Theo Charlier” International Trumpet Competition.
He served as Principal Trumpet of the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège (Belgium) from 2014 to 2018, and during his career has performed with various orchestras including the Córdoba Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Navarra, RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC), Brussels Philharmonic, Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Cadaqués Orchestra, and the Palau de les Arts Orchestra, among others.
In February 2023, he toured the United States with the Spanish Brass Quintet.
Since 2017, he has been a member of the Spanish National Orchestra and performs as part of the brass quintet brassONEquintet.
