Andriy Ilkiv was born in the family of musicians in Ternopil region of Western Ukraine. Music lives inside him from the very first moments. Andriy has been playing guitar, piano, trumpet and drums since his childhood and he has sung a lot as well, as it’s been very common for his native land. He studied playing trumpet in Rivne and Khmelnitsky Musical Colleges. He graduated Kyiv Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music.
Andriy was awarded with many prizes and nominations in a series of national and international trumpet contests and festivals. He got his first YAMAHA`s professional trumpet as a prize on the International Trumpet Contest in 1999, when legendary Timofei Dokshytzer was Head of the Jury.
Nowadays, Andriy Ilkiv is a soloist of the National House of Organ and Chamber Music of Ukraine where he has been performing over 20 years. On its glorious stage he plays a lot of concerts together with chamber, symphonic, wind and folk instrument orchestras, playing solo and accompanying organ, piano, singers and different kinds of ensembles as well.
Also, Andriy Ilkiv is a leader and principal trumpet of “KYIV-BRASS” which is one of the most fascinating brass ensembles in Ukraine.
Since 2002 Andriy Ilkiv has been a soloist and a leader of brass section of the world known orchestra Philharmonic of Nations founded by the legendary Leonard Bernstein and his disciple Justus Franz. His trumpet sounded in Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Konzerthaus Berlin, Gesteig in Munich, Alta Opera in Frankfurt, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Belgrade Philharmonic and many other stages of Poland, Great Britain, Germany, Serbia, Croatia, France, Spain, China, USA, Belarus, Ukraine etc. Andriy Ilkiv has made numerous records kept in the recorded collection of classical music of the Ukraine National Radio Company.
As a music educator Andriy lkiv conducts master-classes and workshops in Ukraine and abroad. He promotes and manages workshops and concerts of famous trumpeters in Ukraine, such legendary trumpeters as Fred Mills, Otto Sauter were introduced to Ukrainian public and musical students due to Andriy’s efforts.
Andriy Ilkiv regularly provides master-classes on Yamaha trumpets explaining their characteristics and demonstrating his skills using diverse instruments’ possibilities for all genres of music – both playing solo and being a part of an orchestra. Sharing his experience and giving valuable advices to young musicians are always the key focus points of Andriy’s master-class.
For over 10 years he has taught trumpet and given ensemble lessons in the Tchaikovsky National Musical Academy of Ukraine. Now Andriy is professor of Glinka Musical Academy in Dnipro.
